OOC: Mars

Truly awesome images from Curiosity, although Sir Nevil does take issue with the repeated use of the term "Martian." It must be the American term.

And, no, I haven't signed Sir Nevil up for Martian citizenship, although the thought did cross my mind.

OOC: Further Links Pertaining to G.B. Airy

Airy cameos in The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage: The Organist. A link in Sydney Padua's lovely notes describes him as "the most controversial Astronomer Royal that Britain has ever had.

Aww. Poor adorable paranoid Darwin. "His...uh, barnacles he won't talk about," indeed.

OOC: Victorian Views on Mars

One of the places in which Stent's and Airy's careers notably don't overlap is Stent's interest in Mars, and (unfortunately for him) the possibility of intelligent extraterrestrial life. However, even outside of H.G. Wells and War of the Worlds, Victorians were interested in the possibility of Martians (or should that be Marsians?) creating a civilization and traveling to Earth.

I am Conqueror of Mars! )
